Throughout June I'm posting about Substack. I hope you'll stick with me and try out some suggestions.
Last week, I shared some great Substack newsletters to match your gothic mood. The suggestions will help you channel your inner dramatic and romantic, while keeping it creepy!
This week, I'd like to focus on a couple of original storytellers on Substack who share works that are gothic-y. Here's why: A reader messaged me, saying they were heading out on a vacation, and asked about recommendations for NEW gothic book titles. I realized that besides some wonderful novels available as ebooks and print (for example, get your copy of BLOOD & WOLF), Substack is a great resource of original gothic-y/romantasy works you won't find elsewhere.
If you're headed on on vacation, consider downloading the Substack app and try out these two suggestions:
LOVE PARANORMAL ROMANCE - Author Kestrel Caim writes free and subscription-only stories for readers who want supernatural with lots of romance. I read the first four chapters of "A Little Rough, A Little Ruined", exploring themes of love and loss, with spice and sass. I enjoyed every lush word.
STATION DARK - Author Matthew Holvey is writing a serialized gothic with horror and fantasy elements and a small-town setting. I tried chapter one, and the writing drew me in. The characters get under your skin and crawl around with their fears and fascinations. And you're hooked on the plot from the start!
Whether you're planning to visit a cottage by the lake, a resort on a beach, or a mansion in the mountains, there are some wonderful writers on Substack for your summer reads.
Next week, I'll have more to share about Substack. In the meantime, are you planning to read something gothic on your vacation? Howl at the comments box!
