Someone recently asked me if I'm on Substack, and I thought it would be a good idea to post on my blog: YES! I have a Substack called Romance at a Dark Wood's Edge.

Unlike other platforms, Substack offers a way to connect with readers and writers and have conversations about writing, swap stories, and explore what makes a great gothic romance tale.

My approach is to test and learn with my content and schedule. For this reason, you can be a part of my community by subscribing for free. Here's what you can expect:

  • As often as I can, I share Notes about a variety of things that interest me. It could be a graphic that caught my eye, or a spooky story, or a funny take on the process of writing, or an essay on the significance of gothic romance covers, or a picture of a flower. I follow several authors who have a lot of expertise and creativity to share, and love to amplify their work. Plus, I enjoy sharing what's growing in my garden. (After all, gardens can be such a moody aesthetic in a gothic tale.)

  • Each week I post an Article, usually about something that I've learned about my writing process or my experiences building my author business. Since the writing world feels very new to me, and I make plenty of mistakes and have many ahas!, there is an abundance of topics for my posts. If you're new to writing, I hope what I talk about may be useful to you as you grow on your journey. I monitor comments and respond as soon as I can.

  • From time to time, I share a gothic-y creative concoction—it might be a piece of flash fiction, or an early work-in-progress, or a character backstory from a larger project. I've organized my fiction experiments under a link called Stories from the Shadows.

So this is what I'm doing for now—and I say 'for now' intentionally because change happens: platforms evolve, schedules change, readers have preferences. I'll let you know if I adjust my setup.

But while I'm on Substack, I hope you'll subscribe to Romance at a Dark Wood's Edge and meet me there!
